Use chairs to save spaces. Illegal, but will you call the police?

Re:  Neighborliness in Ocean Grove

August 31, 2021

There is a website called NextDoor which includes Ocean Grove and some surrounding towns.  This quote is from their website where they claim to want  "a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on."

Well, this internet site is not averse to allowing nastiness and unneighborliness to emerge.

Recently a Grover named Jim Douglas posted a photograph on NextDoor of a house in the Grove.  He did that because he noticed  and disliked two cones placed in front of the home to save a parking space.

He had no idea why the cones were placed at that time, but he decided that readers should come down on that family and "shame them." He advocates calling the Neptune Police in such a situation because parking cones are illegal.  He said that the cone family must feel self important and greedy.

Aside from the specific issue of saving parking spaces with cones, he advocates on that site  that neighbors should spy on each other, take pictures of houses belonging to the guilty family and then to post the pictures on NextDoor, so that some sort of online kangaroo court can convene to provoke the rest of us to take some action against our neighbors.  Fortunately, he received no support on the site.  Then he doubled down and re-posted the house photo and divulged where it is located in the Grove.

The community of Ocean Grove should always speak out against such vile, nasty, and ignorant suggestions. Don't forget that social media bullying has the capacity to incite anger, vitriol, and violence.

Let's not allow that in our community.

Differences between neighbors can be handled in a much more civilized way.
