Without products on shelves for consumers to purchase, supermarkets would have to figure out alternatives to sell.

When I see products on shelves I envision of the story how they arrived from conception of the idea, creation, distribution, shipping, packaging. storing, and stocking.

The product has a 'Shelf Life' that is, -- there were people tens to hundreds who contributed to get that on the shelf for the consumer to buy and hopefully enjoy.

Some products will be on shelves for years, changing their ingredients and packaging from time to time. Campbell's changed their packaging label, which I'll save for another post. In the meantime, knowing that an object like a can, plastic container, or a cereal box helps the consumer why it should be bought is a story that will continue to be told. Stories are memorable and so are the brands. The shelf is needed to make it happen.
