One of Stephen King's best novels of recent time, the Hard Case Crime tale Later, is being adapted for the small screen by Blumhouse TV.

Raelle Tucker has created the series and written the pilot, with Lucy Liu set to star. The story centres around Jamie, who can speak to the dead - and they can't lie to him - which aids his mother with her literary work but attracts other attention (read our review here).

"I've wanted to work with Jason Blum for years, and now we have two projects together," King said. "Go, me!", referring to the adaptation of Mr Harrigan's Phone also in production.

"I've wanted to work with Stephen King since before I was born, which sounds impossible until you remember that it's Stephen King," Jason Blum responded.

Added Tucker: "Later is terrifying and touching and wonderfully weird — of course it is, it's Stephen King. Adapting one of my favourite writers of all time, with an incredible partner like Blumhouse and the incomparable Lucy Liu, is a dream come true."
