CES 2022 amidst the latest surge in COVID-19 cases, the
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is still the place to be for robots, autonomous vehicles, smart gadgets, and their inventors — an opportunity to take stock of what's required to build practical machine intelligence into a consumer product.
Although CES exhibitors pitched VentureBeat on everything, including sexual wellness products, VB sought out briefings related to the
uses of data and AI. In particular, consumer device makers want to take advantage of the cloud for software and data updates without being dependent on the cloud — with the smarts of the smart device resident on the device itself.
Though
automobiles and robots are capturing increasing attention at CES this year, the show is best known for showcasing
smaller gadgets — some of which may prove to be revolutionary in time.

Omron's mobile app coaches users to understand their data and act on it. The company has formed a partnership with Kyoto University to research how AI could prevent cardiac events.
The online service can be paired with Omron's connected blood pressure monitors and the mobile app to support consumers wherever they are on a journey to heart health, the company said.
The range of remote patient monitoring services from Omron are designed to foster greater
active health condition management, strengthen the patient-physician connection, and guide behavior change that reduces or eliminates heart attack and stroke risk.
"Omron began developing our
remote patient monitoring services three years ago,
before the pandemic," said Omron Healthcare's CEO Ranndy Kellogg. "These services flag urgent data for physicians and provide a lifeline for those facing the highest hypertension risks."

It's designed to be functionally safe, so that if one computer or sensor fails, there is a backup available to ensure that the
AV can drive its passengers to a safe place, said Ali Kani, vice president of Nvidia's automotive business, in a press briefing.
Electric vehicle makers such as Volvo-backed Polestar and electric vehicle (EV) companies in China, including NIO, Xpeng, Li Auto, R Auto, and IM Motors have all adopted Drive Hyperion.
Robotaxi services like Cruise, Zoox, and DiDi and trucking services like Volvo, Navistar, and Plus are also using Drive Hyperion. And the autonomous trucking company TuSimple announced at CES 2022 that it will build its new platform on Nvidia Drive Orin.
