Learn how to get A+s in school and improve not only your school success - but your life success! There will be a high level of student/teacher interaction or even student-to-student interaction. This will take place with discussion questions, challenge activities, and sharing of work basing this understanding of the academic style guides that will be used to help with the essay writing in this class. Outschool is unique from other learning platforms because there is a real teacher leading the class. This flex class will create a learning community where students and the teacher interact throughout the class. The teacher will be an active participant and provide regular, consistent posts in the classroom including the lessons and activities. This flex class will make sure to provide interaction beyond the ability to email the teacher with questions. Week 1: The format of the class will be that each week (with a pre-recorded class for the learners to view) by Monday, there will be a first-class introduction of myself by pre-recorded video, with also a written on the class page in both essay writing format of what my past week was like, and then the teacher, myself, will provide writing prompts/discussion questions and a chance for the learners to introduce themselves to the teacher, (with the option of doing so via a pre-recorded video as well), plus introduce themselves to the other learners, during a time that is right for you and suits your schedule since this class is a flexible schedule class. There will be teacher interaction by providing helpful comments and feedback for the writing of learners, plus supportive learning occurring from other learners in the class providing helpful comments and feedback for the writing of other learners on the class page. Homework for Learners: Write an essay writing piece to be posted to the class page and comment on other learners' essay writing. Teacher Interaction: Providing feedback on the learners' expressive writings and journal articles. Week 2: Again this week with a pre-recorded video to view to guide the week's lesson focus for essay writing, there will be more writing prompts/discussion posts that will help to guide the learners' essay writing based on thoughts about food, cooking, and health in general. There will also be group discussions on the class page on the topic of the week done in an essay writing style. Homework for Learners: To participate in the group discussions and create a writing group with feedback and discussion on the class page based on the essay writings and scholarly journal articles from Google Scholar. Teacher Interaction: To facilitate the group discussions and provide feedback to group discussion results and individual learner essay writings and scholarly journal articles. Week 3: This week will focus solely on essay writing and there will be a pre-recorded video posted to the class page that will provide a lesson on essay writing. There will be assignments posted to the class page for the learners to write about 10 pages of essay writing based on a dream that they have had (not a nightmare), but a dream that they have had, and the other learners will comment on the essay writing that the other learners post to the class page in order to stimulate class interaction. Where necessary, the teacher will ask more pointed and directed questions on the class page to encourage equal participation of all learners in the class. Homework for Learners: Learners are to write in essay-writing format. Other learners will comment on the essay writing of the other learners in the class. Teacher Interaction: Providing an informal assessment to the dream-focused writing for essay writings done in APA format to share in the Outschool classroom with the other learners. Week 4: There will be a pre-recorded video of the class. Homework for Learners: Learners will do an essay writing piece, plus a scholarly journal article review piece from Google Scholar on their favorite pastime that can also be on two different topics. Teacher Interaction: To provide any answers to questions that the learners may have. More weeks follow below: Overall Teacher Interaction and Learners' interaction: Everyone can comment and participate in your writing and provide feedback, plus I will provide guidance on your writing, as well as the other learners, throughout the four weeks of this class. I will also be providing weekly writing prompts for all of the learners in the class to respond to in an expressive writing and journal writing format that I will provide feedback and some editing on in terms of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and other learners can interact with the other learners by providing happy feedback and happy comments based on what you have written. Any learner that is disruptive to the class will be booted out of the class, or at least requested to apologize to the other learner. This will be a safe space of safe learning, and positive learning, as you as the learner have the opportunity to grow and to develop with your writing skills, plus potentially create the beginning of manuscripts that I can be used in other classes that I offer. As well, it is still a good class for those learners who know writing well, or who may have even published a book. This class would help to encourage new ideas for other books. If you would like to add photos that can turn into cartoons with your writing, we will discuss how to do this as well with such online applications as BeFunky. Please note: There are no specific times for this class. The learner works at their own pace. This is why it is a flexible schedule class. The lessons are prepared each week and the learner has the entire week to work at their own pace. Essay Writing for Age 8 To 13! GET A . PDF VERSION OF ONE OF MY BOOKS WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE CLASS! This class will focus on helping children who are at the age of eight years old understand some of the style guide formations that are traditionally accepted for college and university to improve their essay writing skills. The style guides which will be used are the American Psychological Association style guide (APA), as well as the Modern Languages Association (MLA) style guide, as well as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). With the time we will have in this class, the children in the class will have the opportunity to not only learn these style guides but also to have in-class and homework in order to write essays. The assessment process of the essay grading will be informal, however, will provide eight-year-old children with the same rigor as what would be expected of them in college or university, however, geared to a younger age group.
