Spoilers for some story and mechanics stuff in Horizon: Forbidden West
Butch:
Damn, for someone who likes to be alone, Aloy sure surrounds herself with chatty Kathys, doesn't she?
Did all of that. That was a lot of that. Man, I didn't even play strike with Erand and it STILL took forever.
It was nice to have a refresh and a check in with the folks, the folks who's ranks still have a distinct lack of Petra, but not a whole lot of story was advanced past the whole "Tilda reached out to Beta" stuff. That happened.
I must admit, I expected more bananas last night. Strangely banana free.
Though, must ask, I miss something?
First, there was a datapoint that popped right when I gave over POSIDEN. It popped right when I leveled, so, when I hit the button to read it, I got the skill tree, not the datapoint. I, then, forgot what it was called (as one does) and missed it entirely. You read it?
Second, and I have no idea if this is related to the missed datapoint, GAIA mentioned something about there maybe being a solution for Kotallo's lost arm. This screamed "companion quest" to me, but nothing popped. Went and talked to Kotallo. Nothing about "So...heard you can replace your arm...wanna go questing and make out?" Nothing. Missing a datapoint is one thing, but missing a companion quest is tragic. I miss something?
Anyway, that was last night. Then off to the north for black boxes and side quests and maybe the next AI. Who knows? It's a big western world.
Feminina:
I don't know what's up with Kotallo's arm! I also went to talk to him, wandered around, checked out everything I could find, and nothing. Maybe it will come up later. It does absolutely scream Companion Quest but if it's something that's available now and you missed it, so did I. I'm kind of assuming it will come up later on. Maybe once we take DEMETER back to the Base?
I don't recall anything significant with a data point there, so I either read it and it was not exceptionally memorable, or I missed it entirely. I go through the data points every now and then to make sure all the ones with exclamation points are actually things I know about (I like that you can read them -- the voices are great, but reading is so much faster when I'm just trying to make sure I'm caught up), so I'm reasonably confident I haven't missed anything major, but one never knows.
But basically, as far as I know you haven't missed anything.
Chatting with everyone really does take forever.
Butch:
OK, phew. Wasn't just me. Seemed a strange thing to mention for nothing. If we missed it, at least we missed it together.
T SHIRT!!!!!
Forever and ever and ever. And having to reclick "companions" each time...
I even went back and tried to redo the dialog option about Kotallo with GAIA, and every time I hit "companions" I just got that Erand busted his focus over and over. Yeah, nice, I want to talk about ANOTHER companion, please? Please? No? OK, whatever.
What I'm pretty sure about is that finding DEMETER isn't going to plop us in the endgame. Unlike you, I have controlled my magpie urges, so I can attest that I'm right by DEMETER and a good 40% of the map remains untouched. There's more after this. A lot more.
Feminina:
Yeah, I think you must be right. I haven't done it yet, but I feel like there must be a lot of additional stuff, probably about the Zeniths. There's no way we don't have a major confrontation with them at some point, and it feels like there's more to uncover about Beta and Tilda and all that stuff. Probably a lot more.
I'm into it.
Butch:
As am I.
I checked, and, even after POSIDEN, I'm at 41% completion. True, true, we never 100% a game (and, as we are cheerfully avoiding hunting grounds and melee pits we won't 100% this one either), but we're usually around 75%, 80%, so we have a ways to go here, I think.
Which is fine! I, too, am into it.
Needs more Petra. Or a Petra equivalent.
Feminina:
I don't remember what percent it told me last time, but yeah, not close to 100. Don't forget the racing! We're ignoring that too.
Well, I did one race bacause it seemed like I had to to get some information, but after that, hell with it. No racing, no hunting grounds, no fighting pits, no arena battles. I have a world to save, after all!
I mean, I'll criss-cross the entire map five times over to make sure I help every person, collect every item of loot and check out every question mark, but other than that, I'm focused like a laser on saving the world.
Butch:
Totally. Focused.
Though, I asked GAIA how much time we have left and she still said four months. I figure, that means she's figuring shit out, buying time. It's all good.
Yeah, I figure we'll be around 80% completion when the credits roll. That stats page counts EVERYTHING when it comes to "completion," and, as you say, we ain't doing EVERYTHING.
Feminina:
Right, because every subfunction we bring back extends the original timeline a bit, so we still have four months...I'm going with that.
Speaking of those, that's some more evidence there's going to be a lot more game, because GAIA told us clearly that even once she has these three we're collecting now, she's going to need us to get HEPHAESTUS before she can actually fix things, and we don't even know where to start on that yet.
But I'm sure we'll find out!
Butch:
Oh right....yeah....that certainly won't be easy.
You haven't done DEMETER yet? Or completed it?
Feminina:
I have done most of it, but not completed it. I'll probably get to that over the weekend. Fingers crossed for extreme bananas!
Butch:
BANANAS!
I highly doubt I'll get to it over the weekend. Too many question marks!
Oooo! I bet I bet I bet we get the vine thingy when we do it! We got the water thingy from POSIDEN, right? DEMETER is plants! Plant thingy ahoy!
Vine clearing will commence!
Thanks for nothing, AETHER.
Feminina:
Yeah, AETHER didn't give us any fun tools! We got the firegleam thing from Sylens way before that.
Thanks for nothing, AETHER.
Butch:
You would think that AETHER, being all air and stuff, would give us something to get on that tallneck.
Missed opportunity, AETHER.
Feminina:
Yeah, that balloon could have tied into AETHER. Missed opportunity indeed.
Ah well.
Butch:
But I'll bet the vine thing is coming soon.
Do you have it already?
Feminina:
Yup. You're right, it comes with DEMETER.
Butch:
I'm surprised you've done anything but clear vines for the past week.
Wait....you've done nothing but clear vines for the past week, haven't you?
Feminina:
Weirdly, no. I've been going through the DEMETER content, so I pretty much just got out of...that. NOW I'll go clear vines for a week.
Butch:
As one does.
Can't have enough machine muscle!
I'm always running out of machine muscle.
I feel like I loot and loot and loot, and yet never, EVER have the thing I really need.
Feminina:
I always, always, ALWAYS have plenty of ridgewood, though.
Butch:
So much ridgewood.....
And cacti.
Even in the game, I eat a lot of meat. What can I say? Me am what me am.
Feminina:
I don't eat anything, really. I always forget about food. Plus I'm always running out of room to carry things. I need to clear some of the lower level traps out of that menu.
Butch:
I didn't used to use food, but food saved my bacon in that stormbird fight, so now I'm kinda attached to it.
I just have to find out something useful to do with the cacti.
What sucks about food is that, when you buy it, they tell you what it does. Then, I totally forget.
Wings of the Ten? Local Stew? Shaved haunch? Not exactly intuitive the way, say, "healing potion" is.
Feminina:
Yes, I think that's part of it--I see all these food items with cool effects and then think "but I'd never remember which one to use when" so I don't buy any of them.
Butch:
Yup. I, once, ate what I thought was healing food, only to learn it increased "valor on impact" which, when one is down to 20% health, is only useful for a very short period of time.
Feminina:
Yes, not quite the energizing snack one was hoping for. I still mostly just inhale berries. I can carry slightly more of them due to some Survivor skill or other, but you can really burn through them in a fight.
