[1] It's inevitable: Data generation is only going to continue to accelerate.
Organizations must fundamentally rethink digitization to not only keep up, but to master the process, and data in general. The answer to this: Autonomous operations (AO) and AIops – the process of applying AI to IT operations – according to a new report commissioned by Dell Technologies.
"We have to be heading in the direction that data is going to get created," said John Roese, global CTO for products and operations at Dell. "We have to improve the ratio of people to infrastructure."
The report, "The State of Autonomous Operations: Why IT Automation is Driving Digital Transformation Success" found that, while organizations are progressing well in their digital transformation, many lag in their adoption of AO and AIops. >> Read more.
[2] Advanced Micro Devices announced a definitive agreement to acquire distributed services platform maker Pensando for $1.9 billion.
Pensando's platform will expand the AMD product portfolio with a high-performance packet processor and a software stack already deployed at scale across cloud and enterprise customers, helping AMD to deliver on its vision of the next-generation data center.
With the addition of Pensando, AMD said it will be even better equipped to deliver a broad portfolio of high-performance and adaptive solutions to address the exploding demand for data center computing capabilities.
The value of the deal doesn't include working capital and other adjustments, and it's expected to close in the second quarter. >> Read more.
[3] Judging by Gartner's Hype Cycle, most organizations are close to wrapping up the developmental and experimentation phases of their initial AI programs and are now looking to operationalize them within the business model. This is a crucial step for the technology because it represents the leap from expectation to reality.
Without tangible results in the real world such as heightened productivity, lower costs or some other positive outcome, AI could get pushed back to the lab for further refinement or possibly suffer a slow death altogether.
According to MIT Sloan Management Review, however, 2022 is shaping up to be the year that AI finally starts to produce solid returns on the investments of the past few years.
Surveys are all well and good, but where are the success stories that highlight exactly who is benefiting from AI, and how? >> Read more.
