This year's Barrington Art Festival opened Saturday with more than 100 artists, a crowd estimated in the thousands, banner weekend weather and resembling versions of the annual event pre-pandemic.
"It's just a beautiful weekend," said Amy Amdur, president of Amdur Productions – a fine arts festival company she founded in 1984 – which puts on the event. "Today is perfection."
The free-to-attend festival in downtown Barrington featured busy midways shortly after the juried show opened Saturday morning. Thousands of people attended the festival of approximately 130 artists, organizers estimate.
Amdur described opening day as a perfect one for an art festival.
"Who wouldn't want to be outside and then you get to look at art, and meet the artists," she said.
She also praised the varieties of available dining.
"There's a lot packed in, everything from ice cream to Italian dinners," Amdur said, adding business owners benefited from festival traffic.
