Big Finish's annual Short Trips opportunity has opened in search of new talent to write a Doctor Who short story, to be released as an audiobook at Christmas 2022.
The Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity honours the memory of the cheerful, much-loved person at the heart of the Big Finish production office, who passed away suddenly on 8 May 2014.
Now in its seventh year, the competition is open until the end of June. The full list of terms and conditions can be found on the Big Finish website here, and should be read by anyone planning to send in a new story submission.
Big Finish's Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs said: "Once again, we honour our late, very much-loved colleague Paul Spragg, who is never far from my thoughts. During his time working so hard for Big Finish, he encouraged so much new talent, so in his honour, former Big Finish producer Ian Atkins established this annual opportunity for new writers to come on board.
"As always, I'm looking forward to reading the fascinating, thought-provoking entries. We're always inundated with a very high standard of stories, so the experience is always extremely gratifying."
Prospective entrants should listen to previous winning entries, to understand what kind of adventures the judges are looking for:
The first winning story, selected from over a thousand submissions in 2016, was Forever Fallen by Joshua Wanisko. The finished production, narrated by Nicholas Briggs, can be downloaded for free from the Big Finish website. The subsequent five winning stories, Landbound by Selim Ulug, The Last Day at Work by Harry Draper, The Best Laid Plans by Ben Tedds, Free Speech by Eugenie Pusenjak, and The Lichyrwick Abomination by Joe Vevers are also excellent starting points.
