Expressive and Journal Writing With Award-Winning Author – Flexible Schedule
All learners will receive a free eBook written by the teacher when they complete this class!
This will be a fun class in order to improve both your expressive writing, as well as your journal writing skills. What is expressive writing you may ask? Expressive writing is a free form or freestyle writing that can be done from either a Google Docs page, or a Word document, or if you have a Mac, from a Pages format, or, if you have Open Office, from a document there. You just fluidly write and express yourself based on anything that may have happened in your day, story ideas that you could have for games, movies, books, music, etc., plus even poetry, and…you can also include sketches and/or royalty-free images with this expressive writing as well. It's a way to get the ideas flowing and to create a body of written work that is outside what you may need to do for school, however, could even help you to formulate your next essay for your classes at school.
Journal writing is similar to expressive writing. It is different in the sense that a journal is more of a chronicling of the days, weeks, months, and years of events that can provide a lot of information for story-building – just as expressive writing can as well! I, myself, as your teacher, have written a good selling book with expressive writing, plus a bestselling book based on the beginnings of the manuscript from my journal that I have been keeping since the age of seven years old. Expressive writing is something that was more introduced to me while I was in graduate school doing my doctorate degree, so this class will help to advance you as well!
Week 1: The format of the class will be that each week (with a pre-recorded class for the learners to view) by Monday, there will be a first-class introduction of myself by pre-recorded video, with also a written on the class page in both expressive writing and journal format of what my past week was like, and then the teacher, myself, will provide writing prompts/discussion questions and a chance for the learners to introduce themselves to the teacher, (with the option of doing so via a pre-recorded video as well), plus introduce themselves to the other learners, during a time that is right for you and suits your schedule since this class is a flexible schedule class. There will be teacher interaction by providing helpful comments and feedback for the writing of learners, plus supportive learning occurring from other learners in the class providing helpful comments and feedback for the writing of other learners on the class page.
Homework for Learners: Write an expressive writing piece and a journal article piece to be posted to the class page and comment on other learners' expressive writing and journal writing.
Teacher Interaction: Providing feedback on the learners' expressive writings and journal articles.
Week 2: Again this week with a pre-recorded video to view to guide the week's lesson focus for expressive writing and journal writing, there will be more writing prompts/discussion posts that will help to guide the learners' expressive writing and journal writing based on thoughts about food, cooking, and health in general. There will also be group discussions on the class page on the topic of the week done in an expressive writing style, as well as a journal writing style.
Homework for Learners: To participate in the group discussions and create a writing group with feedback and discussion on the class page based on the expressive writings and journal articles.
Teacher Interaction: To facilitate the group discussions and provide feedback to group discussion results and individual learner expressive writings and journal articles.
Week 3: This week will focus solely on expressive writing and there will be a pre-recorded video posted to the class page that will provide a lesson on expressive writing. There will be assignments posted to the class page for the learners to write about 10 pages of expressive writing based on a dream that they have had (not a nightmare), but a dream that they have had, and the other learners will comment on the expressive writing that the other learners post to the class page in order to stimulate class interaction. Where necessary, the teacher will ask more pointed and directed questions on the class page to encourage equal participation of all learners in the class.
Homework for Learners: Learners are to write in expressive-writing format, as well as journal-writing format about a dream they have had. Other learners will comment on the expressive writing and journal writing of the other learners in the class.
Teacher Interaction: Providing an informal assessment to the dream-focused writing for expressive writings and journal writings of the learners.
Week 4:
There will be a pre-recorded video of the class. There will be a class contest and the winner will receive by the end of completing the class, two free eBooks for winning the class contest. Winning the contest will be something that the winner of the contest can put on their resume now and/or in the future for winning the Donna Magazine class expressive writing and journal writing contest. Learners are to write about and to get into discussion group about one of their favorite pastimes such as Roblox, or having a YouTube.com channel and how they think their favorite pastime could be improved? There will also be a contest this week, judged by the other learners with two prizes to be won! There will be a prize for the best expressive writing done by the learner that is judged by the other learners, plus a prize for the best journal article judged by the other learners.
Homework for Learners: Learners will do an expressive writing piece, plus a journal article piece on their favorite pastime that can also be on two different topics. The learners will also need to judge the writing of their other learners to find a winner for the two contests of that week, one for expressive writing and the other for the best journal article.
Teacher Interaction: To provide any answers to questions that the learners have for this contest week.
Overall Teacher Interaction and Learners' interaction:
Everyone can comment and participate in your writing and provide feedback, plus I will provide guidance on your writing, as well as the other learners, throughout the eight weeks of this class. I will also be providing weekly writing prompts for all of the learners in the class to respond to in an expressive writing and journal writing format that I will provide feedback and some editing on in terms of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and other learners can interact with the other learners by providing happy feedback and happy comments based on what you have written. Any learner that is disruptive to the class will be booted out of the class, or at least requested to apologize to the other learner.
This will be a safe space of safe learning, and positive learning, as you as the learner have the opportunity to grow and to develop with your writing skills, plus potentially create the beginning of manuscripts that I can be used in other classes that I offer. As well, it is still a good class for those learners who know writing well, or who may have even published a book. This class would help to encourage new ideas for other books.
