This tape was contributed by 'Mad Mohawk' Koen L.
The People Are Starving was released by Dick Lucas on his Bluurg Tapes. The recordings were done in November 1987. In the band (from the Channel-island Guernsy) at the time: Mark Le Page (vocals), Pete Riddle (bass), René Tostevin (drums) & John/Jonny Langlois (guitar). The next year 'Hammy' Paul Halmshaw put out the band's self-titled album on his label Peaceville. That was recorded with extra singer Ian Allsopp. They also had a track on the Peaceville compilation-LPs A Vile Peace & Hiatus.
from the www: >>While their LP could be described as the bastard child of 'Chaos UK' and 'Extreme Noise Terror', their early sound was more akin to the second wave of British punk-rock. [...] Snotty, fast, straight-up punk-rock with lyrics about multinational corporations. [...]<<

The scene was quite close in Guernsey and musicians quite scarce, so there was some sharing of musicians between bands, especially drummers! Mark (vocals) and Jon (guitar) were friends and then asked me (who had played bass once for 1 gig with a short-lived band called 'Chronic Distortion') to join them. We then roped in René (drums) and the original 4-piece was formed. We practiced a bit, recorded the tracks for the tape and sent it to Dick Lucas from 'Subhumans' who released it on his Bluurg label/mailing-list. 'Hammy' from Peaceville then put the tape-track Millions on the Vile Peace compilation. By then we were a 5-piece and did the album for Peaceville.
