Observations by DD Geopolitics on the "coup belt".... -  There is a vast abundance of resources including labor, oil, and mineral deposits. -  It's got the highest concentration of western bases on the continent with tiny Djibouti hosting an astounding SEVEN foreign nations. -  It cuts clear across the continent dividing the Northern Africans from the Sub-Saharan Africans, a divide easily and often exploited.
