But first...

Hm, yes, it's another of my drawings/paintings.
The title is pretty obvious.
As I'm sure I have said before, concerning these works, is that they are about the balance of eye-catchiness.
Eye-catchiness Dave?
Yes that's right. They are about what might attract and interest the eye.
The eye?
Yes, the human one. I don't know what animals, dogs, cats, etc, think about art. Probably nothing, and good for them!
Well, come on, then!... Let's have a look at the thing!
Black and Red. No. 2. 2023. Charcoal, black ink, and fluorescent paint on paper, about 28" x 19", 70 cm x 48 cm.
Well?...
What?
Go on, then!
These... are about the balance between...
Eye-catchiness?
Yes, that's right! The red is so very bright, it immediately grabs and attracts the eye.
My eyes, are grabbed.
Good... But the red part is pretty much the same size as the intricate black bits. So, the idea is to create a balance of eye-catchiness between the black bits and the red bit. And I think that this works out, well, pretty well. What do you think?
I'll go along with that... but...
But, what?
Well... the main question, is...
What main question?
Is this properly described as, a drawing, or is it a painting?
What the hell does that matter?
It has to be one or the other!
No, it doesn't...
What would you say, if someone, on the phone, asked you what it was... What would you say?
Well, I suppose, I'd say that it is, a...
A what?...
A snake…
A snake?
Yes.
But...
Well I am a surrealist, you know...
That's stupid!
I know... this work, is a snake!
Ha!...
