Oda was very involved in the show's production, most notably in the casting process. This was so the actors would fit his vision of the show, a fact older fans can appreciate. In a Teen Vogue interview with Iñaki Godoy, the actor for Luffy, said, "Getting into character with Luffy was a big challenge. He is very explosive and optimistic… it was finding a balance between how can I be fun, energetic, and crazy, but also keep this real, how do I find that balance?"
According to The Daily Beast, the eight episodes have cost $144 million in total to produce, $18 million per episode. All of this budget has gone to the large pirate ships along with the special and practical effects that do their best to bring the characters from the anime/manga to life.
Vincent Tran, a Silver Creek High School senior, said, "Although I prefer the source material, this live adaptation is very faithful albeit with some minor, quirky inconsistencies. It's personally a 7/10 for me. I am very excited that it is getting a second season."
Another senior, Khoi Tran, said, "I watched the first episode and already knew this was golden. The pacing is much better than the anime. Season two will definitely follow suit."
